We know salmon is a favorite fish of a lot of kids, so why don't we serve it all the time? Salmon are funny fish. They are born in fresh water, but when they grow up, they swim to the ocean. When it is time to have babies, they return to the fresh water where they were born. But sometimes dams make it impossible for the fish to get home. Scientists count the fish that return and estimate how many babies they will have. Once they can predict whether the population will go up or go down, the scientists then decide how many salmon they will allow the fishermen to catch.
